Batch B 2012 NYSC Timetable

Hey you *insert BB flirty smiley*

I hope everyone's doing well, wherever in the world you are...

Just wanted to note that the timetable for the next set of corpers for 2012 (Batch B) has been out for a little while - kindly forgive me for not stalking the NYSC website to check.

The notable details on the timetable for Foreign-Trained Graduates are as follows:

April 2nd to June 4th - Registration in Abuja
26th to 27th of June - Delivery of Call-Up Letters to your state of residence's NYSC secretariat
July 2nd to 23rd - Orientation

For the full timetable, click here - NYSC Batch B Timetable

Something to remember, corpers are being sent to serve in the following sectors: Health, Education, Agriculture, and Infrastructure.

Erm, that's about it.

Ttyl + xoxo = C u berry soon!

  1. Hey Berry, thank you for writing this blog, you're a lifesaver! Exactly two weeks from today, I'm getting on a plane to Nigeria to register for this batch and I'm super nervous and excited.
    2 things:
    1. registration ends on June 4 and not June 8 as was previously posted on the NYSC website.
    2. How/at what point can you influence where you get posted to? I would love to teach and I'm open to working anywhere in the country but with the government's seeming inability to control Boko Haram, I cannot in good conscience go to Northern Nigeria.

    1. Hiya Anonymous #1 - Thanks for your kind words, and you'll do fine! In response to your points...

#1 - Noted and updated. Thanks!

#2 - Honestly, I can't (not won't) say. What they're trying to do (maybe for show) is weed out corruption in NYSC. I recently heard of someone who paid an NYSC official to get posted to a particular company - now the official's conveniently traveled and the person was posted to a school. The most I'd say is use your network - family, extended family, friends, etc. But with the way things are being run now, influencing your posting's not 100% guaranteed.

One thing to note is that even if you're initially posted somewhere, a lot of people do the orientation camp there, and then ask for reposting - you need to have a compelling reason, e.g. you're a married woman and need to be with your husband OR medical reasons.

      Somnn else to do? PRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!

    2. Mehn, I'll definitely be praying oh! I'm happy that there are anti-corruption measures but now that my personal safety could be at stake.. hmm... #doublestandards
I guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.
Please indulge me, I have two more questions:
      1. When it comes to NYSC attire, everybody says to bring from home; but where on earth do you buy white shorts? Does the length matter?
      2. I have to head over to Abuja as soon as I get home so I'm trying to prepare as many items as possible. I have American sized passport photos but I know they're a little bigger than Naija size. Do you know if they'll be accepted?

    3. Lol, I had a hard time dealing with my conscience and the double standard too :p

      1. Yeah, it's much better to bring your stuff from home. At least you know they fit. And you know they're new and never been worn. Sorry, but I don't trust market-shopping, which I had to do = stains on clothes, etc. Yuck!

Your shorts should be comfy cos you're in them the whole day, day in-day out for 3 weeks. I'd recommend having maybe 4 or 5, becos you never know when/if they'll be stolen. I don't think length matters too much, but of course, no bum shorts. Err on the side of propriety and get somn that goes mid-thigh or lower. Don't get anything overly expensive. Walmart has some good choices - see links below.

#2 - You need A LOT of passport photos, at least 30 or so. If they decide your pictures are too big, they might just cut them to the correct size - maybe. Have scissors handy just in case. And if all else fails, there are always passport photogs lurking on almost every street in Nigeria.

    1. Hello Anonymous #2

#1. If you're a foreign-trained graduate, when you register, you indicate your state of residence on the form. If you went to school in Nigeria, I believe you pick up your call up letter at your university...

#2. I wish I knew. Nobody briefed me on anything before getting to camp. It might be a new development, or they're briefing the NYSC staff that'll go to the camps.

#3. I'm in Batch C, 2011, and we never got scratch cards for anything. I've seen it mentioned from a couple of years ago, but even then it wasn't clear that they worked properly.

Sorry I couldn't give you definite answers. NYSC still has quite a lot of kinks they need to work out, including giving out proper information.

      Best of luck though.

    1. Hi Kaycee,

It remains to be seen. So far, nothing's been said about postings for Batch B, so it might be a fair assumption that nothing's going to change.

    1. Hello, registration has started already and ends Oct 5th. See the timetable http://nysc.gov.ng/mobtable2012C.php. If you're a foreign-trained graduate, you have to register in Abuja before Oct 5th. I'm not too sure about Nigerian graduates, but I think you register at the school you graduated from.
